TP-Link versus ASUS Wi‑Fi 7 routers

TP-Link and ASUS both sell mainstream and premium Wi‑Fi 7 hardware. Compare individual port layouts, mesh compatibility, administration tools, and which ongoing features require an account or subscription.

Short answer

Compare models within the same tier. TP-Link often presents a broad price ladder, while ASUS emphasizes extensive controls and gaming-oriented options. Check the exact model because neither pattern applies to every router.

We based this recommendation on the sources below. We have not tested these routers ourselves.

Compare equivalent tiers

A fair comparison pairs routers with similar bands, ports, and price positions. Comparing an entry dual-band TP-Link model with a flagship quad-band ASUS model mainly reveals their product tiers.

The ASUS RT-BE96U lists faster Ethernet and a higher wireless class than the Archer BE550, so they sit in different tiers. Begin with required specifications, then compare the models that remain.

Check mesh compatibility

TP-Link uses EasyMesh on the models in our index, while ASUS uses AiMesh. Features, compatible products, backhaul options, and mixed-model behavior can differ. Existing compatible hardware may make one ecosystem substantially less expensive to expand.

Check the support page for every planned node. A broad ecosystem name does not guarantee that every combination exposes every feature or receives updates for the same period.

Check software and support

Administration design, automatic updates, security tools, parental controls, VPN features, and account requirements affect the router every day after purchase. Screenshots and feature names can change with firmware, so consult the current manual and support pages for the exact model.

Separate included router functions from optional cloud or subscription services. A low purchase price can be less attractive if a feature the household expects requires recurring payment.

Comparison checklist

Use the same sequence for both brands so marketing differences do not move the goalposts.

  • Required band count and 6 GHz support.
  • WAN and LAN port quantity, speed, and configurability.
  • Compatible mesh hardware already owned or planned.
  • Included software features and update policy.
  • Current price, warranty, and return conditions.
